Antiflare technique
Some people complain about the Tokina 12-24 being more prone to flare than the
Nikkor 12-24. This is more or less true, but in practice there are not
so many occasions where you could suffer from this. I have been doing quite a
lot of landscape photography with the Tokina 12-24 on the Nikon D200 and I
discovered that you can solve the flare problem (when it occurs) just
by using your hand as a hood extension (not getting your hand on the picture of
course).
This has been working all the time until now (when I saw flare in the
viewfinder
of course).
Maybe this sounds silly, but it helped me a lot...
A picture showing how I look like when doing this... and then
a simple shot without the
hand and with the hand...

No flare
There are of course some other "techniques" to do the same, for
instance using a hat, or any other object. There are even accessories
available
you can mount on the lenshood to provide the same "functionality".
