The F65/N65 Film Camera

A top view of the camera with the 28-80G lens mounted - the typical Nikon buttons/user interface/look and feel is visible.

This is the small SLR camera I bought when I decided to restart photography a bit seriously. It is a very compact SLR with the traditional Nikon quality user interface and limited but excellent functionality. The camera is called the F65 in Europe and N65 in the US. I bought it as a kit with two cheap lenses 28-80 and 70-300. Not a top quality combo, but pretty good to learn about photography.

Pros

- small, light and compact
- 5 sensor AF
- 3d matrix metering
- auto modes for beginners (landscape, portrait,...)
- works with i-TTL flashes (SB-600...)
- works with the EL3 remote control (the same IR remote as for the D70)
- bracketing
- full picture, spot, and center metering
- exposure compensation
- cheap and excellent price/quality ratio for the kit
- most interesting features even found on more expensive camera's are available

Cons

- AF performance is limited compared to higher level camera's
- viewfinder not very clear, not really usable for manual focus
- too small ?
- plastic low quality  finish
- only works with expensive 3V batteries, no AA batteries
- only one thumbwheel like on other low to medium end camera's
