The Nikon S500 point and shoot camera

The most compact camera I have ever used.

This is the small compact camera I bought for my son when we travelled to the US. I have been using it as well. The wonderful thing is that it takes very good pictures under normal light conditions. You can just take the camera in your pocket and you are all set. The zoom range is not exceptional but what do you expect in such a compact package. The camera is fast and that is a surprise at such a price point. The startup time is very short and the shutter delay is very short as well.

Pros

- small, light and compact
- most interesting features even found on more expensive camera's are available
- decent macro possibilities
- high ISO option to "save" the picture
- fast startup
- short shutter delay
- nice design - metal finishing
- excellent resolution (I am not sure the higher resolution versions are any better)

Cons

- AF performance is limited compared to higher level camera's
- no viewfinder
- too small ?
- only works with expensive proprietary batteries, no AAA batteries for example
- some controls not available (if you want to shoot in manual mode)
