This is a very cheap solution I would recommend to all amateur willing to do some product photography, a portable mini-studio. It comes in a square bag (approx 1 1/2 ft x 1 1/2 ft) and can be unfolded to get a cube with three transparent sides and a background (color selectable: blue or grey). The kit comes with two small halogen lamps and mini-tripod for light-weight camera's (not strong enough for a serious DSLR).
This combo is in fact very easy to use and transportable. Used in combination with flashes (optional) and for instance a D200 with a 105 VR lens, you'll get amazing results.
