Visit to Turkey

I have been visiting the region of Antalya a number of times... and a few weeks ago I did it with a decent DSLR... so I decided to share a few pics (well, many pics) The region is very sunny and the temperature is quite high....

The vast majority of tourists just don't leave the resort and enjoy the water sports...

I decided to go for a more cultural day... and went to a small village called Demre to take a boat

the boat took us to a small village on an island (no other way to access it than via the sea) called Kekova... There were ruins of an extremely old city, partially under water

In the neighborhood, the one and only tomb in the middle of the water (next to Kekova)

The village of Kale (antique name was Simena), only accessible via the sea

Detail view of the village

In the village, the ruins of the smallest known antique theatre

A view of the cemetry and the tombs

Back on the boat to Demre...

Two views in the city of Demre

Contrast between tradition and modernism

There is a well known church in Demre, the Saint Nicolas church (Santa Claus). For those who don't know it, Santa Claus was living there in Turkey, and was helping poor people and children... and he had green clothes. It is because of Coca-Cola that the color became red ! (in the thirties I think). And there is a Saint Nicolas celebration beginning of December in some countries in Europe (including Belgium) next to Christmas. Here are a few pics of the church:

and now the last chapter, an antique theatre, one of the biggest (capacity about 8000 people) in the site of Mira

A strange view (not exactly ruins) but in the middle of the ruins, with a visitor...)

Back to the ruins, a detail

and a number of thumbs, in the mountain (a few hundred meters from the theater)

I hope that this was not too boring and that you enjoyed the tour.

Thanks for watching.
