The Nikkor 28-105 lens

The reason why I own this lens is that I have been looking for a walkaround lens for my film camera's with very decent performance in terms of picture quality. Based on several reviews I found on the internet, I decided this was an interesting choice. The lens is not very fast (3.5 to 4.5 aperture) but provides a interesting range, from a decent wide angle at 28mm up to a reasonable tele for portraiture for instance. A nice package comparable to an 18-70 on a digital camera.

The Pros

- nice range
- decent build quality
- old design but AF
- very sharp pictures
- price reasonable
- light

The Cons

- no standard sunhood
- optional sunhood a bit "ridiculous" and not effective at all focal lengths
- AF speed depending on body
- front element rotates (issue with CP filters)
- the lens extends quite a lot while zooming

The lens with the HB-18 sunhood (the official one, not standard, you have to buy it separately)

The lens extended to 105mm - note the macro button for closeup photography
