Suggestions to Nikon for a new D200s
The following are a number of suggestions to Nikon for an improved
D200. According to me, the D200 is probably the best DSLR currently on
the market, an extraodrinary compromise between speed, image quality,
build quality, featuring, user interface, and that at a reasonable
price.
I never hesitate to take that camera to
take pictures and to have fun but nevertheless there are a few things
Nikon could improve. I hope they will read this, because if we can
extrapolate based on their usual product life cycle, they are currently
designing a slightly improved version which could be called D200s.
Until now we have had a D2Hs, a D2Xs, a D70s...
Here are the things I would like them to change:
- improved battery life with improved power management
- grip with added audio memo function (like the D100 grip)
-
change the joypad clicking mechanism to make it really usable (the
current version is very difficult to use, to click without moving the
cursor, for instance, while typing text, is tricky).
- add the few gadget features they have in the D80 (D-lighting etc...)
- allow any function to be allocated to the function button (for instance to switch banks)
- make banks usable by allowing to store them and to recover them (see D2X) - the current implementation is useless
-
allow renaming of files prefix and directory prefix to make picture
sorting much easier (currently only file name prefixing is possible,
while directory prefixing is possible on the D70)
- last but not least, but that is a dream, otherwise, they would sell much less D2Xs', a faster AF motor.
Again,
Nikon, thanks for the D200, it is by far my favorite camera and the
best I could dream of, but I hope you'll take some of this into account
for your next generation.
UPDATE In the meantime, the D300 has been launched and solved a number of problem. I regret they didn't modify the
joypad (they did on the D3 however) and even more possibilities have been added (extra resolution, lifeview, more FPS,
better LCD and many more others)
