Interesting photography resources
Again as a Nikon fan, the first few sites I
mention are specialized in providing useful technical information about
mainly
Nikon equipment. Of course other sites about photography in general are
mentioned
as well.
General info and reviews
- Bjorn
Roslett
This is a Norwegian guy who is
one of the best recognized experts of Nikon lenses. His site is one of
the best resources to evaluate the capabilities of a specific Nikon
lens on a film or digital body. The site is full of interesting stuff.
- Nikonlens
A general site providing links to lens reviews (Nikon and third party
lenses for Nikon camera's)
- Malaysian
photo club
This is a kind of encyclopedia
of all existing Nikon lens. The amount of information and knowledge
collected on this site is amazing. The place to be if you are looking
for information on old or very old lenses or to see some crazy lenses
(incredible fisheyes or superlong telelenses)
- Lens
resource
An amazing list (database) of
all Nikon lenses ever made, with introduction dates, serial numbers...
hosted in New Zealand.
- Photozone
An
interesting site of a German guy, borrowing equipment from fellow
photographers and publishing "scientific" reviews of many lenses and
other gear. The tests are done systematically, and give a pretty good
idea of the actual technical performance of the lens: MTF (resolution),
chromatic aberration, vignetting... Really worth a visit before buying
a lens.
He has lots of stuff about Nikkor, Canon lenses as
well as many third party lenses (Tokina, Sigma, Tamron)
- Rob
Galbraith
A lot of reviews of recent useful
products for photographers. Some people find the reviews less objective
than others, but I find it an interesting source of information. Rob
Galbraith is well known and appreciated in the photo community.
- Ken
Rockwell
A very controversial site, Ken Rockwell
is publishing his own reviews and comments about mainly Nikon related
products (he recently announced to intend to look at the "other side"
(Canon)) and many people do not take his conclusions too seriously. He
is drawing conclusions about equipment he did not really use (a lot).
That makes some of his conclusions a bit doubtful to certain people. On
the other hand, he has quite a lot of common sense and there is a lot
of intelligent and useful stuff on his site. Up to you to see if you
find it worth visiting, I found it worth mentioning here. Personally, I
like his no-nonsense approach and even if some pro might not agree with
him, I really think his conclusions are true most of the time, even if
a bit controversial.
- Thom Hogan
An interesting site. Lots of useful
information. Thom Hogan publishes books and e-books which are a nice
complement to the official documentation.
- SLR
gear
reviews
Lots of useful stuff if you are in a
buying mood. Check this site for reviews about camera's, lenses...
- Earthbound-light
site
Excellent photography tutorials - a lot
of very useful infos there. One of my favorites. A new tutorial is
published every week.
